FAA conference: Expecting 150 conference attendees.
AIPC responsibilities:
Elder
’s panel: to be held in conjunction with the luncheon on May 20.John Compton has agreed to moderate the panel and he has suggested some of the following for the panel: Margaret Tyon; Wilma Thin Elk; Farrell Howell; Mary Allen; Blanche Zembouer and John Emhoolah. Jan Jacobs will coordinate the panel with John and make any necessary arrangements. The AIPC agreed to set aside $400.00 to pay panel participants. John will receive $100 and four each will receive $75.00.
Presentation of the Colors: Lori Windle will contact Tom Allen to see if the Seminole Veterans are available. She will also contact Bill Center about giving the invocation. The FAA has money set aside for this, but it was decided that AIPC would also help with this expense.
Lynn Wheeler will be the contact person with the FAA on all activities that AIPC is helping with. He will need addresses, etc for the panelist and short bio
’ s. The FAA Aviation Education Day schedule was e-mailed today from Karen Rodgers Office with the Colorado Indian Commission to all of the local school districts.Registration Fee: There will be a reduced fee for AIPC members wishing to attend the conference. Jane Wilson will clarify these costs.
The Denver Indian Center will host a Banquet on Wednesday, May 21 to feature John Herrington, Chickasaw Astronaut.
A visit to see the American Indian Collection at the Denver Art Museum is also being planned. This will be on Thursday and provide an activity for those not wanting to attend the flight aviation afternoon at the United Flight facility. Jan Jacobs will coordinate this activity.
Website: Need to have a new agency to feature. Health and Human Services has been the featured agency for the past several months. Helen volunteered to have Department of Education featured. She will work with Lori.
By-laws: Concerns regarding membership. Who is a member. Does the member have to be designated by their agency to be a member and therefore officially represent their agency? If the membership was official, would the attendance improve? Need to have this as a topic of discussion at the next quarterly meeting with Larry Grandison present. AIPC needs to be in line with the Denver Federal Executive Board.
March Powwow Planning Committee: Need to be prepared for next year
’s March Powwow. This is a great opportunity to have the various agencies visible, especially since there is such a diverse tribal attendance at the March Powwow. By not having a booth this past year, it was decided that early planning is a must. Jeff Roest, Vi Rogers, Dale Lujan., Helen Littlejohn and Jane Wilson will serve on this committee.Suggested activities: opportunities for programs and participation by AIPC.
July meeting: Pearl Ironshell from the Denver Indian Family Resource Center will be make a presentation regarding American Indian foster parents.
Invite Karen Rogers to attend a meeting and give an update of the Colorado Indian Commission activities. How can AIPC be involved?
Fish and Wildlife Diversity Day: May 15
AIPC should set up the booth and also send out notices to the AIPC agency representatives.
EPA: will be re-scheduled
Rocky Flats Diversity Day: booth potential, Richard will keep informed.
Richard reported on the Native American Science Bowl recently held in Colorado Springs. The Department of Energy is the sponsor. It was decided that this would be a great opportunity for AIPC to support a good, educational program. Richard agreed to be the lead on this. The next Science Bowl is scheduled for February 2004.
Officers:
Nominations were taken from the floor for the office of Vice-Chairman Dan Archuleta was nominated. A motion was made by Dale Lujan and seconded by Richard Anzures to elect by acclamation.
Aide Spade volunteered to serve as secretary if her agency is in agreement. Chet Blue Sky made a motion that we elect Aide, pending agency approval. Lori Windle seconded and the motion carried.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 3:00 PM. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at the Department of Education, 1244 Speer Avenue.
